I made a series of studio portraits entitled We Are Family, while photographing the Black Trans Liberation movement. I hoped to show the critical bond between members of the black transgender community; what it means to be a part of a chosen family. How this bond and the statement “We Keep Us Safe” is all that stands between life and death.

This connection helps this community forge a path through an unsafe world. Together they are stronger. Together they are a family. Together they protect and uplift each other. Together they are safe.
