Acrylic on canvas

Emily Gabrielle Moreno

I see the world though texture, layers, and color. For the past few years now I have been discovering who I am and what my purpose is; as an artist but also as a daughter, a sister, a cousin- the list goes on. Young adulthood unraveled a deeper understanding of my family’s dynamic than what I knew as a kid. While navigating through modern impressionism and abstraction, I want to preserve my memories of family and childhood while telling a reimagined story of the things I don’t remember due to repressed trauma and lost family photos. These self portraits are in conversation with each other; reminiscing and connecting the dots of who I was, who I am now, and who I will be. This project is a story of strength, preservation, and healing. My body of work is a mere reflection of this journey that I can only hope others can relate and connect to.
