Jennifer Ahn

Her journey in art may have been born out of sadness, where deaths seem to take the center stage in life. COVID and her own mother’s sudden passing no doubt contributed to this impression. Through art she processes challenging aspects of life, allowing a range of emotions to find a framework where both devastation and consolation can exist together. There is a ubiquitous presence of nature, through which the longing for home is constantly expressed. Though it sometimes poses as a perilous force which cannot be harnessed it also provides a sanctuary where care and companionship are granted to those who seek refuge. When she thinks about connections, it is when she walks through Inwood Hill Park. This is a place where everyone, regardless of their race, cultures, or economic status, can come to rest and connect. There is a sense of true community in which all are welcome to have fun and be renewed. The paintings presented are inspired by nature’s resilient power to grow things at Inwood Hill Park even when it’s not so obvious to our naked eyes; and how they go through seasons of change by continuing to network and support one another.
