Artist Statement

Aleathea Sapp-Jimenez is a Brooklyn-born artist with a Caribbean African-American background. Aleathea loves to create portraits of imagined people against colorful and organic backgrounds. She intentionally leaves her canvases without title in order for the viewer to create their own conversations about her work.

Her love of flowers and patterns are common threads throughout her work. To her the flowers represent a form of metamorphosis that transcends our lives.

When Aleathea thinks of community, she thinks of the vibe of Saturday and Sunday morning; the corner full of music and children's laughter, people sitting in the park, playing chess or just reading a book. Our melting pot has people sharing family stories and merging cultural differences, our vibe is our looking glass.
