Artist Statement

“Beyond the bricks” as a guiding principle allows our attention to flow toward the spaces between the bricks, the connections and moments that happen in the streets of New York City. The City is filled with significant, world-renowned architecture, as well as a plethora of diverse neighborhoods featuring handsome and dignified vernacular buildings, what the preservation field often refers to as our “tangible heritage.” Yet, it is the moments that happen between the buildings, our “intangible heritage,” that brings multifaceted and vibrant life to the City. The City streets transform into an extension of our homes, becoming our living rooms and playgrounds, a place to interact and nurture communal bonds without the hinderance of four walls.
