Artist Statement

Scepanovic’s Gobstoppers/Buttons are playful attempts at tracking time in the absence of an external reference. Inspired by a desire for order during the rinse and repeat of lockdown life, the pieces are often interpreted as abstractions of calendars. The series is meant to be humorous as each piece is grossly miscalculated. These immortalized mistakes convey an underlying sense of optimism and remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.
