Artist Statement

Lauren Camara is an artist based in the Bronx, New York. She has always been fascinated by the unusual textures, bold colors and intricate patterns that characterize paper.

Lauren is inspired by her family that spans a variety of cultures and religions as well as nature, music and New York City. The textures, patterns and colors of the papers she chooses represent the contrasts and contradictions of her experiences. 

New York City is a community that is extraordinarily diverse. It is without a doubt what makes the city so unique and inspiring. To Lauren, “Beyond the Bricks” symbolizes the people of New York City - the core of what makes the city so rich and dynamic. The bricks and buildings, while iconic and captivating, are the frames. The heart of the city is the people inside the frames, and their remarkable stories.
