Artist Statement

I believe my works speak to the theme "Creating Tomorrow" strongly because these works show themes of family and community. As a community, our youth matter in these spaces. They move through the world with an innocence and wonder that should always be cultivated. I feel these themes come through in my work. In Grace and Sway, a woman is leading the child into her environment, announcing herself as she goes. In Uncle and the Kid, the youngin' is being shown how to move in his environment. Biker Boy shows a youth, independent of anyone, but heavily relying on his pride in culture to show him the way. All of these pieces are "creating tomorrow" by depicting stages of, not only quiet pride and joy but also hope for the future.
